Baseball
The BRD
By Carl Childress
February 9th, 2010

We are getting phone calls every day about the 2010 Baseball Rules Differences, or as it's known everywhere, the BRD.

There will be no 2010 edition.

Let me explain why. The changes this year in National Federation rules were minimal. There were no changes for the OBR.

And the NCAA announced they were going to publish their rulebook in the odd years. Their next edition is 2011.

Research at Officiating . com continues, and we promise that the 2011 edition of my book will be the most accurate discussion ever of the myriad differences in the major baseball codes.

Referee magazine listed the BRD as one of the 40 essential sports officiating books. Your umpire library is really not complete without at least one edition of this book.

Pre-publication sales of the 28th edition begin next November in plenty of time for holiday shopping. Reserve your copy before 15 December, 2010, and we'll send an announcement on an individualized card you can open up along with your other presents Christmas morning..

Basketball Clinic: Family Style — Part II
Our first day starts
By Dennis Cirillo
February 9th, 2010

Camps are fun. I enjoy them. They give you the opportunity to work on your game and get feedback from people who have "been there and done that" at a higher level.

John Koskinen runs a clinic known as the "Seashore Basketball Officials Clinic." It is far from "all work and no play."

At the clinic, he uses officials from all levels of basketball to teach you the philosophy around the game. You learn but never have to pick up a basketball. What's even better is that your family is on "vacation" with you!

Join me at Wildwood, on the Jersey Shore, as we meet our first speaker Joe Lindsay.

Editor's note: Recall, please, that Dennis is writing about the camp he attended a couple of years ago.

Super Bowl XLIV
By Ed Hickland
February 8th, 2010

Super Bowl 44, or as the NFL prefers, XLIV, returned to a site familiar to the big game. It was the former Joe Robbie/Dolphin/Dolphins/Land Shark Stadium, now Sun Life Stadium, on the outskirts of Miami, with the New Orleans Saints in the first appearance in the team's history versus the Indianapolis Colts, winners of Super Bowl XLI held in the same stadium.

You already know the outcome, of course. Click the title to read Ed's take on the officiating.

"Waterboy" wrap-up
By Darin Hayes
February 5th, 2010

The grand finale of our Waterboy segments is now here, "for your reading enjoyment," as they used to say in the Reader's Digest. In this edition Darin throws you three situations. You don't want to miss this one!
